Parli Italiano? by Loonaki Parli Italiano? by Loonaki
Okay, this is the most random thing I ever painted. xD I kid you not. This has absolutely no secret meaning or any meaning whatsoever. It's just random. And that's what I like about it.

Painted with Ecoline liquid watercolor, Polychromos colored pencils, Copic Multiliners in black and sepia and Deleter White ink.

Random, well, I guess that leaves me with basically nothing to get all existential and meaningful about, eh?
So simply criticism then. First off, as is usual, the hair is exceptional on the girl and, with the scarf, serves to frame her eyes, which are also of good quality, for their size (which mitigates detail somewhat). The added impact of the scarf, it seems, is to hide the girl's mouth, which is good, I believe, because speech in art is exceptionally hard to portray, as speaking involves much movement of the mouth and it would be difficult to embody a phrase (even a simple one) with just one framed moment. The Background to the piece is also well-used, as it breaks up what would otherwise be a somewhat gaudy white field, yet is simple enough to avoid detracting in any meaningful way from the girl and cat, which are the focus of the piece. If I might critique, my problem with the girl is my problem with most of your work that I've seen which shows a full figure wearing clothes, below the shoulders, she takes on a somewhat 'paperdoll' feel, seeming less lifelike, perhaps with less depth - your area of greatest expertise is still truly the face and expressions (not to mention hair at all :D). My only other critique then would be that the gaze between the cat and girl seems to be akilter - assuming you intended them to be looking at eachother's eyes - the girls gaze seems like it travels over and to the right of the cat a bit, because of the position of her head, though I suspect that correcting this would mean taking the full of her face out of focus, so it might be unfixable if it is your wish to keep her face fully in view. Overall, outstanding work, and especially so for something that is 'the most random...' Keep painting please! :)

Thank you for this! You're right about the "paperdoll feel" of her body. I'll try working on that.
And of course I'll keep painting. ;]

Sometimes random is good! i alwasy thought it was funny when my art teacher made us Disect a piece of art and look for meaning and symbols and all that stuff, but i wonder... did she ever consider that maybe the artist just FELT like making this piece? and didnt really care what all the other stuff meant? I'm glad to know that there are actually artists out there who make art for the sake of making art :) its an adorable piece btw

haha I was the same in art class. xD I always asked: "Yeah, but what if the flower is blue, because he just felt like using blue?!" or stuff like that. But my teacher never wanted to hear about that. I like to think the old great artists had these random moments. :B
